The Story Behind The Kitchen
When I was young I was fortunate enough to have my grandparents be my source of daycare and after-school care. I was about 5 when my grandmother called me into the kitchen one afternoon. Sally told me, "It's time for you to get comfortable in the kitchen. You're going to know how to cook for, at least, yourself as you get older." I'm sure I was terrible. My first tasks in her kitchen were simple- designed just to build some confidence. She was a great teacher and mentor. Everything I did was "almost perfect" and then she'd tell me "this is how I do it but your way will work too if you want to do it that way." Of course I wanted to emulate her instead of doing it my way. My grandmother was objectively one of the best cooks I've ever come across. I fell in love with the feeling of providing for family and friends. Cooking is an expression of love. It's art & science. It's work and reward. So many of the greatest lessons I've learned in life are in part, or wholly, elements of cooking. Many of those lessons were learned in Sally's Kitchen. Now it is my great privilege to continue her legacy and share my love of the culture of cooking.
